This day will apply a highly relevant and practical approach to reviewing causes and presentations of uroabdomen, including options for emergency treatment and stabilisation and decision-making for surgical intervention or more conservative management. We’ll discuss ureteral obstruction and some of the decision-making and options for management, review urethral obstruction in the dog and cat, and focus on the surgical choices, practical elements and key features of surgical procedures to minimise complications and improve outcomes.
The day will include:
Seminars:
Diagnosis and decision making in uroabdomen
Treatment options for upper urinary tract obstruction
Tips and tricks to relieve lower urinary tract obstruction and choosing the right surgical procedure (if indicated)
Core procedures:
Identify ureters and regional intra-abdominal anatomy important in urinary tract surgery, including tips to improve exposure
Perform ureteronephrectomy
Review cystotomy and abdominal wall closure
Perform scrotal urethrostomy on the dog or colposuspension on the bitch
Review perineal urethrostomy for the male cat
This course is useful for anyone wanting to improve their logical approach to decision making for urinary tract surgical procedures and develop their practical skills and technique.
