This course is aimed at general practitioners seeking to develop a more detailed understanding of surgical upper respiratory tract conditions and the treatment options available, including accurate diagnosis, current best practice treatment and perioperative care.

This one-day course will review in detail brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, laryngeal paralysis and tracheostomy. The diagnosis and grading of routine and emergency presentations of BOAS will be explored with current best practice guidelines and tips and tricks for successful outcomes will be reviewed.

Laryngeal paralysis will be explored as a condition and the surgical procedure of tieback, including the common pitfalls and perioperative complications. Temporary and permanent tracheostomy will be practiced and guidelines for postoperative care and maintenance summarised.

Seminars:

  • BOAS

  • URT emergency presentations, including laryngeal paralysis and tracheostomy.

Core procedures:

  • Multilevel BOAS surgery

  • Unilateral arytenoid lateralisation

  • Temporary tracheostomy

  • Permanent tracheostomy
