CPD Course: Nurse Course - Schedule 3 Surgery

CPD COURSE
NORTH EAST REGION

21 APRIL 2026

TUTORS:
Emily Renton BVM&S MRCVS
Gemma Cuthbert BVSc MSc PGcertSAS MRCVS

Are you an RVN looking to expand your skill set and take more of an active part in surgical procedures?

Under the Schedule 3 amendment to the Veterinary Surgery Act, veterinary nurses can perform minor surgery under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon. As a result, more practices are now utilising the fantastic skills of their nurses – why don’t you join them?!

On this course, we will cover both the theory and practical components to ensure you feel comfortable to start tackling these procedures in practice with confidence.

What we will cover:

  • Wound management – dealing with both traumatic injuries and complications with surgical wounds

  • Biopsies – how to choose between, and perform different types, including fine needle, punch, and incisional biopsies

  • Mass removals

  • Tail amputations

  • Surgical management of aural haematomas

With our purpose-built wet lab and small class sizes, we can ensure you will have plenty of practical experience and contact time with our course tutor.

Loads of practical, which was brilliant, and plenty of cadavers, so we all had loads of time to practice our skills. The course was great and really helpful. Everyone was very friendly and kind.
